N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2006) -- Host Oneonta overcame an
early two-goal deficit Sunday in a non-conference
field hockey match and the Red Dragons went on
to defeat the Golden Flyers, 5-2.
Nazareth, which also lost at Hartwick
Saturday, slipped to 2-8 overall, while Oneonta
evened its overall record at 6-6.
Kasey Robinson (pictured) and
Kelly Flanagan each scored for Nazareth before
the game was 13 minutes old. Robinson scored unassisted
at 7:36 and Flanagan scored her third goal of
the season about five minutes later, off an assist
from Kelly Miranda to give the Golden Flyers a
2-0 lead.
Oneonta stormed back and tied
the score before halftime on a pair of goals by
Kathryn Kubaryk, who also assisted on the game-winning
goal by Somer Shuffield early in the second half.
Leslieann Gutchess and Marissa Chiapperino added
insurance goals less than two minutes apart to
close out the Oneonta scoring. Chiapperino's goal
came on a penalty shot in the 52nd minute.
Oneonta had a 19-11 edge in shots
and a 12-3 advantage in penalty corners. Kristen
McIntyre played the first half in goal for Nazareth
and yielded two goals while making two saves.
Katie May came in in the second half and had six
saves while allowing three goals.
Sunday's game was the last of
six straight on the road for the Golden Flyers,
who are hom Tuesday to play Hamilton at 7 p.m.
