N.J. (Sept. 16, 2006) -- Host Stevens Tech scored
the game's only goal with less than five minutes
to play in regulation Saturday as the Ducks won
their first-ever Empire 8 Conference game in field
hockey with a 1-0 victory over Nazareth.
Stevens, which joined the Empire
8 Conference this season, improved to 6-1 overall.
Nazareth is 0-1 in conference play and 1-4 overall.
Stevens had a 24-13 advantage
in shots but was turned away repeatedly by Nazareth
goalie Katie May (Rochester, NY pictured), who
made 13 saves. Stevens finally broke through at
65:10 as Courtney Geddis scored an unassisted
goal to provide the Ducks with the victory. Stevens
goalie Stephanie Smith made four saves for the
shutout.
Nazareth is back on the road Thursday
to play Houghton College in a non-conference game
at 4 p.m.
