NAZARETH KNOCKS OFF ITHACA IN OT, 1-0
Freshman Kelly Flanagan scores game winner

ITHACA, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2006) -- Freshman Kelly Flanagan (pictured) scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period Saturday to lift visiting Nazareth to a 1-0 victory over Ithaca in field hockey.

The victory was Nazareth's first-ever field hockey win over Ithaca in five tries. The Golden Flyers improved to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8. Ithaca is 4-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Ithaca had a 21-7 edge in penalty corners and a 16-8 edge in shots, but Nazareth had three of its shots in the second overtime, including a one-timer by Flanagan (Fairport HS/Fairport, NY), who scored her second goal of the season. Junior Kelly Miranda assisted on the goal which came with 4:05 left in the second overtime.

Sophomore Kristen McIntyre made her first career start in goal and produced eight saves for the shutout.

Nazareth has two more road games next weekend. The Golden Flyers visit Hartwick for an Empire 8 Conference game Saturday and then Oneonta for a non-conference game Sunday.
