N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2006) -- Nazareth’s men’s
and women’s cross country teams competed
at the Yellowjacket Invitational in Genesee Valley
Park on Saturday. The women’s team placed
fifth out 10 teams and the men’s team finished
sixth out of nine.
The women’s team was led by junior Jessica
Brown as she finished the 6-kilometer race in
19th place with a time of 24:09, which was the
fastest time ever for a Nazareth runner on this
course and a school record.
Sophomore Abby Crain completed the course in
41st place (25:11), followed by freshmen Shannon
Bradley (25:46) and Jenny Lounsbury (25:57) who
finished 51st and 55th respectively.
Sophomore Lauren Glaser (26:01) finished fifth
for the Golden Flyers in 58th place, followed
by juniors Liz Pfleghardt (26:12) and Jennifer
Katz (27:02) who placed 62nd and 70th overall.
Cornell’s “B” team won the race
with a total 28 points followed by, Western Ontario,
Allegheny, Geneseo “B”, Nazareth,
U of R, Brockport, Finger Lakes, Alfred State,
and Keuka College.
The men’s team was led by junior Brendan
Epstein (pictured) as he finished the 8-kilometer
race in 15th place with a time of 26:48, which
was the fastest time ever for a Nazareth runner
at the U of R course.
Juniors Aaron Sirtoli (26:54) and Michael Anderson
(28:47) ran strong as they finished in 20th and
55th place. Seniors Larry DiCesare (29:40) and
Craig Connelly (30:02) placed fourth and fifth
for the Golden Flyers and in 68th and 70th place
overall.
University of Western Ontario won the tie-breaker
with Allegheny to win the men’s meet. Brockport
finished third, followed by U of R, Geneseo “B”,
Nazareth, Alfred State, Finger Lakes and Keuka
College.
Both of Nazareth’s cross-country teams
will compete next week at the RPI Invitational/Empire
8 Championships at Saratoga next Saturday.
