ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2006) -- Nazareth's men’s
and women’s cross country teams hosted their
annual short-course invitational on Saturday.
Both teams ran well on the muddy course placing
second in both the men’s 6-kilometer race
and the women’s 4-kilometer race.
Nazareth men’s team was led by juniors
Nick Stenuf (20:59), Aaron Sirtoli
(21:06), and Brendan Epstein (21:06) who placed
first, second, and third respectively. Junior
Mike Anderson (22:33) and freshman Aaron Heltsley
(23:35) finished in 13th and 26th places to give
the Golden Flyers a total of 45 points. Senior
Craig Connelly finished strong to place 27th with
time of 23:37. Oswego State edged the Golden Flyers
by three points for men's team title as five of
the Lakers’ finishers placed in the top
12. Fredonia State finished in third place, followed
by Utica, University of Rochester B, Daemen, Keuka,
Medaille, and Hilbert.
Nazareth
women’s team was led by juniors Jess
Brown (16:08) and Ashley Hughes (16:12)
who finished in fourth and fifth place. Sophomore
Abby Crain (16:30), freshmen Shannon Bradley (17:03)
and Hannah Quick (17:03) completed the Golden
Flyers’ scoring with seventh, 10th, and
11th place finishes to give them 37 points. Freshman
Jennifer Lounsbury finished just three seconds
behind Quick to give Nazareth a strong sixth runner.
Fredonia State had an amazing race as they placed
their five top runners first, second, third, sixth,
and eighth to give them a score of 20 points.
The University of Rochester’s B team finished
in third, followed by Daemen, Keuka, Oswego, Utica,
St. John Fisher, and Hilbert.
Both of Nazareth’s teams will compete next
Saturday at the University of Rochester Invitational
in Genesee Valley Park.
