GENEVA,
N.Y. (Nov. 29, 2006) -- Host William Smith took
its winless frustration out on the Golden Flyers
in women's basketball Wednesday as the Herons
jumped to a 37-19 halftime lead and were never
challeneged thereafter in a 69-35 victory over
Nazareth.
The win was the Herons' first of the season
after opening the season with two defeats. Conversely,
Nazareth lost for the first time after winning
twice over the weekend.
Nazareth scored the first two points of the
game on a pair of free throws by Sarah Homer,
but it was all William Smith after that. Junior
Stephanie Czajkowski scored 12 of her game-high
15 points in the first half as the Herons built
an insurmountable lead.
Nazareth was limited to just 12 baskets in 50
attempts (24 percent) as William Smith's lead
continued to grow in the second half. William
Smith made 27 of 72 shots and enjoyed a 51-37
rebounding edge. Nazareth also committed 19 turnovers.
Homer and freshman Kelly Dunne (pictured) each
scored six points for Nazareth. Stephanie Bowens
had seven rebounds and Lizzie Barlow had six.
Czajkowski made 7 of 12 shots for the Herons
and grabbed six rebounds. Paula Foote added 10
points, while Amanda Nann and Robyn Capoto each
had eight.
Nazareth returns to action Monday, Dec. 4 for
a non-conference game at Pitt.-Bradford at 6 p.m.
