WHITNEY SMITH NAMED E8 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2007) -- Whitney Smith, a freshman forward on the Nazareth College women's basketball team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season.

Smith scored 42 points in three games for Nazareth, equaling a season high-with 19 points in Saturday’s loss to Hartwick. She scored 16 points in a loss to Utica on Friday night. For the week, she shot 77.8 percent from the free throw line and averaged four rebounds per game.

Smith leads the Flyers in scoring this 2006-07 season with 12.4 points per game and second in rebounding with 5.5 per game.

Nazareth finishes their season tonight against Elmira at 6.p.m. and another Empire 8 game on Saturday against Ithaca at 2 p.m.
