NAZARETH FALLS TO ROBERTS IN OT, 86-82
Golden Flyers (5-8) resume conference play Friday at Ithaca

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (Jan. 13, 2007) -- Roberts Wesleyan outscored Nazareth 9-5 in overtime Saturday as the Raiders outlasted the Golden Flyers, 86-82, to take fifth place in the annual JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament for women's basketball.

In a see-saw game that had 14 ties and 14 lead changes, Nazareth took the lead for the final time, 81-80, on a basket by Stephanie Bowens with 3:48 left. Roberts regained the lead for good, 82-81, with 2:35 left on a basket by Joanna Patalano. Aimee Kovinchick hit a free throw and Erin Farney made a basket to extend Roberts' lead to 85-81 with 1:31 left.

Ali Sharpe made one of two free throws for Nazareth with 1:14 left, but the Golden Flyers didn't score again as Roberts sealed the win with another free throw by Kovinchick with :10 left.

Nazareth led for most of the first half, including a seven-point advantage following a pair of free throws by Sharpe with 15:01 to play. Roberts came back to tie the score by halftime, 38-38.

In the second half, Nazareth had a six-point lead, 71-65, after Sarah Homer's fourth three-pointer of the game with 5:21 left. The Golden Flyers were still up by four, 77-73, after Bowens hit two free throws with :52 left. Farney forced overtime by scoring twice in the final minute, the second shot coming with just :05 left in regulation.

Bowens made 13 of 17 shots for Nazareth to finish with a career-high 29 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds. Whitney Smith added 15 points, Homer 14 and Kelly Dunne 11.

Six Roberts players finished in double figures, led by Kovinchick's 18 points. Farney added 17.

Nazareth (5-8 overall) resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule with road games next weekend at Ithaca (Friday at 6 p.m.) and Elmira Saturday (at 2 p.m.).
