NAZARETH FALLS TO RIT, 73-65
Golden Flyers (5-11) host Hartwick Friday

ROCHESTER, NY. (Jan. 23, 2007) -- Four players for RIT scored in double figures Tuesday as the visiting Tigers defeated Nazareth 73-65. The victory improves RIT's record to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in Empire 8 Conference play while the defeat drops Nazareth's record to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Golden Flyers began strong as they took a seven point lead on a jumper by senior Stephanie Bowens just 5:05 into the game. The Tigers made a 7-1 run in the next three minutes to cut Nazareth's lead to one point, but the Golden Flyers responded with a 9-0 run capped off by a three-pointer by senior Sarah Homer to take a 25-17 lead with 9:45 to play in the first. RIT answered right back with its own nine-point run to take a 26-25 lead with just over seven minutes to play. The half eventually ended with Nazareth ahead 36-35.

The Tigers came out strong in the second half as they took a six-point lead with 14:46 to play after Ramata Diallo connected with a lay-up. The Golden Flyers fought back with a 7-0 scoring run in the next 2:19 to take a 50-49 lead with 13 minutes to play. This would be Nazareth's last lead of the game, however, as Danielle Furman led RIT with a game-high 18 points as she connected on five of her nine three-point attempts. RIT led by seven points with five minutes left in the game and the closest Nazareth came was 63-51 after freshman Rachel Pirozzolo made two free-throws with 3:21 to play.

Freshman Whitney Smith (pictured) led the Golden Flyers with 15 points in the losing effort. Freshman Kelly Dunne and sophomore Lizzie Barlow each added 10 points for Nazareth.

Also in double figures for the Tigers was Senior Margot Sandy who scored her 1,000th career point as she added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ramata Diallo and Joanna Dobeck each recorded 14 points for RIT.

The Golden Flyers are home for two games this weekend as they take on Hartwick Friday at 6 p.m. and Utica Saturday at 2 p.m.
