Golden Flyers improve to 3-5 overall

DAYTONA, Fla. (Dec. 29, 2006) -- Senior forward Stephanie Bowens (pictured) scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds Friday as Nazareth defeated Neumann College of Pennsylvania in a non-conference women's basketball game, 65-52, at the Ocean Center.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 3-5 overall. Neumann, which came into the game with nine wins in its last 10 games, slipped to 9-3 overall.

The game was tied at 27-27 at halftime, but Bowens scored 14 of her 20 points in the final 20 minutes to propel the Golden Flyers, who outscored the Knights 38-25 in the second half. Bowens made 9 of 15 shots from the field and went 2 for 3 at the free-throw line.

Junior forward Ali Sharpe, still recovering from off-season knee surgery, contributed a season-high 15 points, including 9 of 13 free throws in 22 minutes of action. Senior Sarah Homer had 10 points, including two three-pointers, and freshman Kylie Bartlett also hit two three-pointers and finished with nine points.

Nazareth returns from Florida Monday and then prepares to open its Empire 8 Conference schedule next weekend. The Golden Flyers host Alfred Friday at 6 p.m. and St. John Fisher Saturday at 2.
