ONEONTA, N.Y. (Feb. 10, 2007) -- Visiting Nazareth recorded the first points of the game on a basket by freshman Jamie Malloy, but the Hawks controlled the rest of the game. Hartwick shot over 55% (31-56) from the field for the game to outscore Nazareth 94-81.

Nazareth drops to 7-16 overall and 3-9 in Empire 8 Conference games. Hartwick improves to 9-14 overall and 4-8 in the Empire 8 as they continue to battle for one of the final spots in the conference tournament in two weeks.

After Malloy's basket, Hartwick outscored the Golden Flyers 26-13 in the next seven minutes to take its first double-digit lead with 11:39 to play in the first half. A three-pointer by freshman Kelly Dunne (pictured) cut the Hawks' lead to 26-20 with 9:23 to play, but Hartwick would end the half on a 22-13 scoring run to take a 48-33 halftime lead.

The Golden Flyers were never able to seriously challenge the Hawks for the lead in the second half because of Hartwick's hot shooting. After the Hawks increased their lead to 20 points with 15:30 remaining, the closest Nazareth would get was 11 points when senior Sarah Homer connected on a three-pointer with 3:33 to play.

Freshman Whitney Smith led the Golden Flyers with 19 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Dunne recorded 18 points and junior Ali Sharpe added 12 points and four steals. The Golden Flyers had an advantage in turnovers (17-14) but were outrebounded by the Hawks 40-30.

Hartwick also had three players scoring in double figures. Mara Tichy recorded a game-high 30 points, followed by Lindsay Wilson with 26 points, and Jenny Knight with 19 points.
