FISHER BATTLES BACK TO DEFEAT NAZARETH, 69-61
Golden Flyers fall to 4-6 overall; Chase Tournament next

ROCHESTER, NY. (Jan. 6, 2007) -- Junior Allison Boehm scored a game-high 20 points to lead visiting St. John Fisher to a 69-61 victory over Nazareth in an Empire 8 conference game for women's basketball. The victory improves Fisher's record to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8 conference. The Golden Flyers fall to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the Empire 8.

Nazareth led by 11 points with 16:28 remaining in the second half but the Cardinals went on an 11-0 scoring run in the next 4:00 to tie the game at 47.

Nazareth reclaimed the lead after Kylie Bartlett and Whitney Smith hit free throws and Stephanie Bowens made a lay-up at 7:52 to give the Golden Flyers a 54-49 lead.

Fisher then came back to take its first lead of the game on a three-pointer by Kellie Leathem to give the Cardinals a 56-54 lead with 5:17 remaining in the game. Nazareth answered with a three-pointer by Whitney Smith to go up by one point, however Ashley Dean responded with a lay-up for Fisher to retake the lead. Fisher was able to extend its lead by making seven of eight free throws and two lay-ups in the final 3:02.

Smith scored a team-high 13 points for Nazareth in the defeat. Freshmen Kelly Dunne and Jamie Malloy (pictured) and senior Stephanie Bowens each added 10 points for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth's next game is Tuesday in the JP Morgan Chase Tournament at either RIT or Keuka.
