DEVIN
GOTHAM NAMED WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH
AT NAZARETH COLLEGE
ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (May 15, 2007) -- Devin Gotham, men's basketball
coach at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
the past four seasons, has been named head women's
basketball coach at Nazareth College.
Gotham,
a 1998 Nazareth College graduate, replaces Diane
Williams, who coached at Nazareth for nine seasons.
A
native of South Colton, N.Y., Gotham (pronounced
GO-thum) helped to rebuild a struggling program
at MCLA in North Adams, Mass. The eight victories
the team amassed in 2004-05 matched the total
from the three previous seasons combined. In 2006-07,
the Trailblazers were recipients of the Sportsmanship
Award from the Division III New England Basketball
Officials Association. At MCLA, Gotham also served
as assistant director of sports information and
was the head men's and women's cross country coach
for three seasons.
Before
going to MCLA, Gotham was an assistant men's basketball
coach at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.,
where he helped the Ephs to a three-year record
of 74-14, including a 31-1 mark and the NCAA Division
III championship in 2003.
Gotham's
basketball coaching experience includes a two-year
stint as an assistant coach at Alfred University
and eight years as Director of Basketball at Camp
Laurel in Readfield, Maine.
As
a basketball player, Gotham was a four-year member
of Nazareth's basketball team and helped the Golden
Flyers win the ECAC Upstate championship in 1997
and helped them to their most recent NCAA Tournament
berth in 1998. He was a three-time recipient of
the team's Hustle-Heart-and-Harmony Award that
represented leadership, work ethic and character.
"This
is an exciting new chapter for Nazareth in women's
basketball," said Nazareth Athletic Director
Pete Bothner. "Devin brings to Nazareth a
great deal of enthusiasm and provides an opportunity
for us to move forward in a positive direction."
Gotham
has a degree from Nazareth in Business Administration
with a minor in Sport Management. His identical
twin brother, Kerry, is Nazareth's Director of
Alumni Relations.
As
Nazareth women's coach, Gotham will look to rebuild
a program that has posted sub-.500 records in
three of the last four seasons. The Golden Flyers
were 7-18 in 2006-07 with a 3-11 record in the
Empire 8 Conference.
