NAZARETH LOSES AT CORTLAND, 83-60
Golden Flyers fall to 2-4 overall

CORTLAND, N.Y. (Dec. 8, 2006) -- Cortland's Sara Cavanaugh scored 32 points Friday as the host Red Dragons won for the seventh straight time in women's basketball, defeating Nazareth in a non-conference game, 83-60.

Cortland improved to 7-1 overall. The Golden Flyers slipped to 2-4 with their fourth straight defeat.

Nazareth kept the score close for the first 10 minutes or so before Cortland surged ahead 46-32 after 20 minutes. Cavanaugh, who made 12 of 16 shots from the field, including 6 of 9 three-pointers, scored 23 of her points in the first half.

Cortland's lead remained in double figures in the second half and grew as large as 25 points with less than four minutes to play.

For the Golden Flyers, freshman Whitney Smith (Webster Thomas) had her third straight double-digit scoring effort as she finished with a career-high 19 points. Smith (pictured) made 7 of 16 shots, including two three-pointers. Smith also scored 16 points in Thursday's loss to Fredonia and 15 in Monday's loss at Pitt.-Bradford.

Sarah Homer added 11 points, Stephanie Bowens (Nazareth Academy) registered 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds and Kelly Dunne dished out six assists.

Nazareth is off until Dec. 28-29 when the Golden Flyers travel to Daytona, Fla. to compete in the Land of Magic Classic. Nazareth plays Gwynedd-Mercy Dec. 28 at 10 a.m.
