TROY,
N.Y. (Dec. 3, 2004) -- A poor shooting night spelled
doom for the Golden Flyers Friday in women's basketball
as Nazareth lost a first-round game in the Russell
Sage Invitational, falling to Worcester State
of Massachusetts, 73-60.
Nazareth shot just 32 percent from the field
(19-for-60) and 49 percent from the free-throw
line (17-for-35). Worcester, meanwhile, shot 64
percent from the field (27-for-42).
"If you want to point to one thing, it was
our free-throw shooting," said Nazareth Coach
Diane Williams. "We shot so well there the
other night (Wednesday against Cortland), then
tonight we just couldn't connect."
Nazareth fell behind 31-23 at halftime and never
recovered. Senior guard Jaimee McGivern (pictured)
scored a game-high 18 points and sophomore Sarah
Homer contributed 15.
Nazareth plays in Saturday's consolation game
at 12 p.m. against Pine Manor.
