ALI SHARPE NAMED E8 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2005) -- Ali Sharpe, a freshman forward on the Nazareth College women's basketball team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week for the seven-day period ending Feb. 5.

A native of Rochester, N.Y. and a graduate of Aquinas Institute, Sharpe scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in a 59-45 victory over Alfred last Friday. She added 10 points and five rebounds in the Golden Flyers' 61-51 victory over St. John Fisher Saturday. It marks the second time this season that Sharpe has been honored as E8 Rookie of the Week.

Overall, Sharpe has appeared in all 19 games for the Golden Flyers and is averaging 5.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 50 percent from the field (39-for-78) and 76 percent from the foul line (34-for-45). The Golden Flyers are 11-8 overall and 4-5 in Empire 8 Conference play.

Nazareth has three more conference games this week -- Tuesday at RIT at 6 p.m., Friday at hme against Hartwick at 6 p.m. and Saturday at home against Utica at 2 p.m.
