HARTWICK RALLIES TO DEFEAT NAZARETH 53-44

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2005) – The Hartwick Hawks rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat host Nazareth 53-44 Friday in women's basketball. The Hawks are now 7-3 in Empire 8 Conference play and 10-11 overall. The Golden Flyers hold a 5-6 E8 record and are 12-9 overall.

After trailing early in the first half, Nazareth rallied to lead by as many as 11 points, 29-18, on a basket by Sara Shipley (pictured) with :58 remaining before halftime. Hartwick's Alann Adams scored just before the halftime buzzer, but Nazareth was still ahead 29-20 at the break.

The Hawks, however, stepped up their defensive play in the second half, limiting Nazareth to just six field goals in 31 second-half attempts (19 percent). The Hawks took control of the lead 36-35 with 10:32 remaining with a basket from sophomore forward Jenny Knight and Nazareth never recovered the lead. Hartwick made 11 of 17 shots in the second half and outrebounded Nazareth 23-11. In addition, Nazareth shot just 1-for-10 from three-point range.

Shipley scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Flyers, while freshman Brittany Almonte scored a career-high four points.

Sophomore Lindsay Wilson scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Hartwick. Jenny Knight had 12 points, while Mara Tichy added 11 points and nine rebounds. Alanna Adams grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hawks.

The Flyers continue the season with their final home game hosting Utica Saturday at 2 p.m.
