GOLDEN FLYERS SCORE BIG WIN AT HARTWICK
Nazareth wins 58-44 to snap six-game losing streak

ONEONTA, N.Y. (Jan. 29, 2005) -- Visiting Nazareth bolted to a 31-19 halftime lead Saturday and went on to defeat Hartwick, 58-44, in an Empire 8 Conference women's basketball game.

The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 2-5 in conference play and 9-8 overall.

Senior Sara Shipley scored 11 of her game-high 14 points in the first half and the Golden Flyers held the Hawks to just five field goals in the first 20 minutes as Nazareth build a commanding advantage.

In the second half, Hartwick outscored Nazareth 14-6 over the first 10 minutes to close within 37-33. Nazareth's Cassie Denniston interrupted the spurt with a jumper. Freshman Ali Sharpe then sank two free throws and Denniston drilled a three-pointer to push Nazareth's lead back to double digits, 44-34, with 7:17 left.

Sharpe went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and finished with 12 points. Senior guard Jaimee McGivern added 12 points, six rebounds, and seven steals.

Nazareth plays again Friday at home against Alfred at 6 p.m.
