NAZARETH UPSETS FISHER, 61-51
Shipley becomes 11th Nazareth player to reach 1,000 career points

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 5, 2005) – Nazareth rolled past St. John Fisher for a 61-51 victory Saturday in women's basketball. The Golden Flyers were led by Sara Shipley (pictured) who become the 11th player in Golden Flyer history to reach 1,000 career points. Shipley's game-high 14 points boosted her career total to 1,005.

The key home-court win, the 100th career victory for Nazareth head coach Diane Williams, lifted the Golden Flyers' overall record to 11-8, including a 4-5 mark in Empire 8 Conference play. Fisher lost for just the second time this season and now stands at 18-2 and 7-2.

The win pulled Nazareth to within one game of fourth-place Utica in the race for the final E8 Conference playoff spot. Utica lost 63-59 at Ithaca Saturday.

Nazareth took a 33-20 halftime lead and St. John Fisher never drew closer than 10 points in the second half. The Flyers led by as many as 18 points in the first half with 5:22 remaining. Nazareth's largest lead was 21 points, 51-30, on a free throw by Shipley with 9:33 left.

Three Nazareth players reached double figures. Shipley amassed 14 points, nine of which came in the first half to help her reach the 1,000 mark. Shipley also grabbed seven rebounds. Sarah Homer added 13 points, and Ali Sharpe had 10 and grabbed five rebounds.

St. John Fisher was led by Kathy Baum with nine points, and Missy O'Donnell grabbed 11 rebounds.

Nazareth continues conference play at RIT on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
