DAYTONA
BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 31, 2004) – The Nazareth
women’s basketball team closed out 2004
on a positive note Friday as the Golden Flyers
improved to 5-1 with a 55-46 non-conference victory
over Clarkson University.
Combined with Thursday’s 60-51 victory
over UMass-Boston, Nazareth completed a two-game
sweep at the Land of Magic Classic played at Embry-Riddle
University.
Nazareth held Clarkson without a field goal for
the first 10:50 of the game while building a 17-2
advantage. The Golden Flyers settled for a 29-16
lead at halftime as Sara Shipley (pictured) scored
10 of her 14 points. Shipley was back in the lineup
after missing Thursday’s game while suffering
from flu-like symptoms.
Clarkson remained within striking distance in
the second half, but Nazareth stayed ahead as
seniors Kate Gagliardi (pictured) and Jaimee McGivern
each scored eight points over the final 20 minutes.
McGivern had six rebounds and four steals in
addition to her team-high 15 points. Shipley had
a game-high 12 rebounds and Gagliardi finished
with 12 points.
Nazareth returns home to play Pitt.-Bradford
Tuesday at 6 p.m., and then opens its Empire 8
Conference schedule with road games next weekend
at St. John Fisher and Alfred. |
