N.Y. (Jan. 8, 2005) – Visiting Nazareth
used a strong second-half effort Saturday to overcome
an 11-point deficit and defeated Alfred in women's
basketball, 50-43.
Senior guard Jaimee McGivern scored all 12 of
her team-high 12 points in the second half to
spearhead the Nazareth comeback.
Nazareth made just six field goals in the first
half and committed 15 turnovers to fall behind
27-18. Alfred then scored the first basket of
the second half to boost the lead to 11 points,
29-18.
The Golden Flyers used some pressure defense
to hold Alfred scoreless for more than 10 minutes
during a 19-0 scoring run and lifted them to a
40-31 lead with 6:40 to play.
Senior guard Nicole Denniston (pictured) contributed
a career-best 10 points to go with eight rebounds
and senior forward Kate Gagliardi added nine points.
The Golden Flyers compete next in the annual
JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament. Play begins
Tuesday.
