ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Feb. 16, 2007) -- Freshman Corey McAdam
(pictured) recorded a triple double Friday with
11 points, 10 assists and a school-record 10 steals
to lift host Nazareth to a 71-56 men's basketball
victory over Elmira.
Nazareth won its 10th game of the season against
14 losses. The Golden Flyers are 5-8 in Empire
8 Conference games. Elmira fell to 2-22 overall
and 1-12 in the Empire 8. The Golden Flyers close
out their season Saturday at home against Ithaca
at 4 p.m.
McAdam, of Fairport, N.Y., took only six shots
in the game, but made three, including a three-pointer.
He also grabbed eight rebounds as Nazareth defeated
the Soaring Eagles for the second time this season.
McAdam's 10 steals broke the Nazareth school
record set by Denny Nicholson in a game against
Roberts Wesleyan in 1989 and matched by Lawrence
Maroney, Jr. in a game against Hilbert in 2003.
It also marked the fifth time this season that
McAdam has reached double digits in assists. He's
averaging 14.1 points and is ranked among the
nation's leaders in assists (7.4 per game) and
steals (3.2 per game).
Junior guard Joe Canori (Webster Thomas) led
all scorers with 19 points, including three three-point
baskets. Junior Tyler Smith (Fairport) contributed
18 points and six rebounds and senior Brian Steves
(Nottingham HS/Syracuse, NY) had nine points.
Nazareth led 35-26 at halftime and expanded
that advantage to as many as 22 points, 50-28,
in the
second half. Elmira closed to within 10 points
on a three-pointer by Joe Prunier with 6:00 to
play, but Nazareth scored the next 10 points
to
erase any comeback thoughts.
Jon Adamson was the high scorer for the Soaring
Eagles with 13 points.
