KEVIN
DOWNEY JOINS BASKETBALL STAFF
ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Dec. 11, 2006) -- Kevin Downey, former basketball
standout at Canisius College, has been added to
the men's basketball staff at Nazareth as an assistant
coach. Downey replaces Jake Steck, who will take
a job in New Jersey at the end of December.
Downey
completed his college career last year as Canisius'
sixth all-time scorer with 1,583 points. He started
every game of his four-year career (116 overall)
and ranks second all-time in three-point field
goals made with 185. He earned an undergraduate
degree in Biology and a Master's degree in Business
Adminstration.
A
native of Livonia, N.Y., Downey was a scholastic
standout at Livonia High, where he played for
his father, the late Tom Downey. As a senior at
Livonia in 2000-01, Downey was the all-Greater
Rochester co-Player of the Year in leading the
Bulldogs to the Section Five Class B title and
a 23-1 overall record.
Downey's
mother, Linda Downey, was Nazareth's women's volleyball
coach for four seasons (1999-2002) and has been
the coach at the University of Rochester for the
past four seasons. His sister, Christa, was a
three-time first-team All-American in volleyball
for Nazareth from 2000 through 2002.
