McADAM NAMED EMPIRE 8 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Canori named honorable mention, Steves is Sportsman of the Year

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (February 22, 2007)—Corey McAdam, a freshman guard on the Nazareth men’s basketball team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year and was a second-team all-league selection for 2006-07. the all-conference teams were chosen through a vote of the league's eight head coaches.

In addition to McAdam, junior Joe Canori was an honorable mention selection and senior Brian Steves was Nazareth’s conference representative as Sportsman of the Year.

Conference regular-season runner-up Utica was rewarded with the Player of the Year in senior forward Ray Bryant while St. John Fisher head coach Rob Kornaker was named Coach of the Year.

Other first-team selections were Ithaca sophomores Jeff Bostic and Sean Burton; Utica sophomore Doug Herring; and Fisher senior Dan McSweeney.

McAdam, of Fairport, N.Y. and a graduate of Fairport High School, had a strong first season for the Golden Flyers in finishing as the conference leader in assists (7.4 per game) and steals (3.2 per game). He also contributed 14.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and was named E8 Rookie of the Week five times.

Canori, of Webster, N.Y. and a graduate of Webster Thomas High School, led the Empire 8 in scoring (at 19.6 points per game) for the second year in a row. He also ranked among the conference leaders in free throw percentage (75 for 94, .798), three-point field goal percentage (72 for 187, .385) and three-pointers made per game (2.88).

Steves, of Syracuse, N.Y. and a graduate of Nottingham, was a two-year member of the Nazareth men’s basketball team who overcame a series of injuries to play a key reserve role for the Golden Flyers in 2006-07. He contributed 4.7 points per game and made 12 three-pointers.
