YORK, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2004) – Freshman Ryan
McAdam (Fairport, NY) scored a game-high 29 points
in his collegiate debut Saturday and senior Ryan
Shipley added 21 points to lift Nazareth toan
85-61 victory over Washington & Lee in the
men’s basketball season opener for both
teams.
Nazareth’s victory, in the opening round
of the New York University Tournament, boosts
the Golden Flyers to Sunday’s championship
game at 3 p.m. Nazareth will play NYU, which defeated
New Paltz 93-67.
Against W&L, Nazareth built a 45-24 halftime
advantage as McAdam scored 21 of his points (including
four three-pointers) in the first 20 minutes.
Nazareth was behind 10-9 early on, then outscored
W&L 36-14 over the final 15 minutes of the
half to take command.
The Golden Flyers were comfortably ahead the
rest of the way as freshman Joe Canori (Webster
Thomas) also reached double digits in his first
college game with 10 points.
Nazareth enjoyed an impressive shooting night
by making 28 of 50 shots from the field (56 percent),
including 9-of-16 from three-point range. In addition,
the Golden Flyers made 20 of 23 free throws (87
percent).
