ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2005) -- Visiting Utica
outscored Nazareth 18-9 over the last five minutes
Saturday to break away from a 53-53 tie to defeat
the Golden Flyers, 71-62 in men's basketball.
The loss dropped Nazareth to 8-15
overall, including 3-9 in Empire 8 Conference
play. Utica, battling for the fourth and final
playoff spot in the conference, improved to 11-11
and 6-5.
Nazareth trailed 39-33 at halftime,
then fought back to tie the score at 53-53 on
a basket by Kyle Nelson with 7:48 to play. A free
throw by Utica's Tim Troy with 5:27 to play enabled
the Pioneers to regain the lead for good, 54-53.
Troy finished with 24 points and
19 rebounds. Junior Justin Cichon also scored
24 points for Utica.
Freshman Joe Canori scored 16
points to lead Nazareth and junior Justin Fladd
(pictured) posted career highs in points (14)
and rebounds (9). Freshman Ryan McAdam added 11
points.
Nazareth concludes its regular
season schedule next weekend with road games at
Ithaca Friday and Elmira Saturday.
