ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2005) – Second-seeded University
of Rochester sank 10 of 15 three-point shots in
the first half and 15 of 27 overall as the Yellowjackets
easily defeated Nazareth, 90-52, in a men's basketball
consolation game in the JPMorgan Chase Tournament
played at RIT.
Nazareth (5-8 overall) led 4-3
early in the game, then Rochester went on a 21-6
scoring spree that kept them comfortably ahead
for the rest of the game. UR (11-3) led 46-22
at halftime and went on to finish third in the
tournament.
Junior guard Caswell Smith (pictured)
scored 14 points to lead Nazareth. Freshman Joe
Canori scored 11 points and Matt Groot had 10.
Nazareth resumes action next weekend
with Empire 8 Conference home games against Elmira
(Friday) and Ithaca (Saturday).
