ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Jan. 25, 2005) – Visiting RIT bolted
to a 22-point lead in the first 15 minutes of
the first half Tuesday and went on to take a 74-60
men's basketball victory over Nazareth.
The Empire 8 Conference win improved
RIT's league record to 4-1. The Tigers are 10-6
overall. Nazareth fell to 1-4, 6-10.
After Nazareth's Joe Canori scored
the first basket of the game, RIT got seven straight
points from senior Sean Murphy (22 points) and
never trailed thereafter. The Tigers' lead swelled
to 30-8 on a basket by Tim Bacon with 8:24 left
in the half.
Nazareth closed to within 12 points
by halftime, 37-25, and then moved to within eight
points on two occasions in the second half. A
basket by Kyle Nelson (11 points, pictured) with
17:15 to play trimmed the lead to 40-32, but RIT's
Kyle Goff answered with a three-pointer and the
Tigers' lead stayed in double digits the rest
of the way.
Canori was Nazareth's high scorer
with 17 points. Ryan McAdam added 16. In addition
to Murphy's game-high 22 points for RIT, Goff
scored 13 and Reggie Shore added 10.
Nazareth returns to action Friday
at Utica College at 8 p.m., then Saturday at Hartwick
at 4 p.m. (WHTK-AM 1280).
