ROCHESTER,
N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2005) – Visiting Ithaca led
30-26 at halftime and never trailed in the second
half as the Bombers held off Nazareth Saturday,
72-64, in an Empire 8 Conference men's basketball
game.
Nazareth kept the game close in
the second half and closed to within one, 63-62,
on a pair of free throws by freshman Brian Ameneiros
(pictured) with 1:35 to play. Ithaca's Brian Andruskiewicz
(26 points, 13 rebounds) responded, however, with
a basket and four free throws as Ithaca pulled
away for the victory.
Ithaca improved to 3-2 in conference
play and 6-8 overall. Nazareth slipped to 1-3
and 6-9.
Ameneiros was Nazareth's high
scorer with 15 points. Junior forward Matt Groot
added 14, Caswell Smith 13 and Joe Canori 11.
Ithaca used a 44-25 rebounding
edge to its advantage as 16 of its rebounds came
at the offensive end. Two other Bomber players
reached double figures in Jim Bellis with 19 points
and Jesse Roth with 17.
Nazareth plays again Tuesday against
RIT at home at 8 p.m.
