ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2005) -- Nazareth freshmen
Joe Canori and Tyler Smith each had career-high
point totals Friday as the host Golden Flyers
snapped a three-game losing streak with a 75-60
victory over Hartwick in men's basketball.
Canori, a guard from Webster,
N.Y., made 9 of 17 shots from the field, including
three three-pointers to finish with a game-high
24 points. Smith, a center from Fairport, N.Y.,
was 5-for-6 from the field to finish with 13 points.
He also grabbed seven rebounds and had four blocks.
The victory boosted Nazareth's
overall record to 8-14 and their Empire 8 Conference
mark to 3-8. Hartwick is 0-10 in conference play
and 2-19 overall.
The game was tied 32-32 at halftime,
then the Golden Flyers seized control in the second
half. A basket by junior Matt Groot (13 points)
early in the half gave Nazareth a 34-32 lead and
the Golden Flyers were ahead the rest of the way.
Smith (pictured) scored all 13
of his points in the second half as the Golden
Flyers pulled away. Their lead reached as many
as 19 points, 64-45, on a basket by Ryan McAdam
with 7:18 to play.
Groot added six rebounds to go
with his 13 points. McAdam also finished in douhle
figures with 11 points.
Eddie McAdoo was Hartwick high
scoreer with 12 points. Greg Betancourt had 11.
Nazareth closes out its home schedule
Saturday against Utica College at 4 p.m. (WHTK-AM
1280).
