ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 5, 2005) -- Host Nazareth
fell behind 33-26 at halftime and St. John Fisher
outscored the Golden Flyers 42-28 in the second
half Saturday to extend its unbeaten record to
20-0 with a 75-54 win in men's basketball.
Fisher, ranked seventh nationally
in the latest d3hoops.com poll, is the only remaining
unbeaten team in Division III. The Cardinals also
lead the Empire 8 with a 9-0 record. Nazareth
fell to 7-13 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Nazareth freshman Tyler Smith
(pictured) scored the first basket of the second
half to trim Fisher's lead to 33-28, then the
Cardinals scored 10 straight points to take a
commanding advantage, 43-28 with 17 minutes left.
The Cardinals' lead never left double figures
thereafter.
Mike McGee was Fisher's leading
scorer with 13 points. Charlie Zahn and Dan Mueller
each scored 12.
Matt Groot scored 12 points and
grabbed eight rebounds for Nazareth. Tyler Smith
added a career-high 10 points.
Nazareth returns to action Tuesday
to play at RIT at 8 p.m.
