ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2005) -- Alfred's Chris Lemasters sank two free throws with :09 left Friday for the winning points as the visiting Saxons edged Nazareth, 63-62, in an exciting men's basketball game at the Kidera Gymnasium.

The defeat drops Nazareth to 2-6 in Empire 8 Conference play and 7-12 overall. Alfred imporved to 4-4 and 10-9.

Nazareth had taken a 62-60 on a basket by Brian Ameneiros (pictured) with :29 left. After a Nazareth foul, Alfred's Ryan Clemenson sank one of two free throws with :15 left.

Nazareth's Leon Hill had a chance to extend the Golden Flyers' lead at the other end, but he missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity with :14 left. Hill then fouled Lemasters to set the stage for the winning free throws. Ameneiros then missed a desperation three-point attempt as time expired.

Nazareth led 30-27 at halftime, but Alfred rallied and led by as many as seven points in the second half. Nazareth staged a comeback of its own as junior Mike DeBlois (9 points) hit three three-pointers in the second half. He tied the score at 55 on a long-range shot, then scored again with 1:24 left to tie the score at 60-60.

Freshman Joe Canori led the Golden Flyers with 16 points. Alfred's Dillon Stein had game highs in both points (21) and rebounds (12). Quentin Bryant added 13 points.
