N.Y. (Jan. 8, 2005) – Host Alfred used some
torrid shooting Saturday to surge past Nazareth
in men's basketball as the Saxons outscored the
Golden Flyers, 91-78, in an Empire 8 Conference
game.
Five Alfred players scored in
double figures as the Saxons shot 54 percent from
both the field (33-for-61) and from three-point
range (12-for-22). Nazareth fell to 4-6 overall
and 0-2 in Empire 8 Conference play. Alfred is
6-6 and 1-1.
Alfred's Quentin Bryant scored
19 of his game-high 24 points in the first half
as the Saxons built a 45-37 lead. Alfred effectively
answered every second-half charge the Golden Flyers
could muster by making 17 of 30 second-half shots.
Freshman Joe Canori (pictured)
led Nazareth with 15 points. Three others also
reached double figures in Matt Groot (14 points),
Caswell Smith (14 points) and Ryan McAdam
(11 points).
