All art education courses are linked, as shown in the Undergraduate Curricular Links Between Courses. It is recommended that students take EDU 204: History and Philosophy of Education, to begin their professional courses in art education. See the Undergraduate Curriculum Map for an overview of the course sequence.

In addition to the art education program courses, students must complete the New York State Certification Examinations required for certification:

  • Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAST)
  • Assessment of Teaching Skills - Written (ATSW) (Note: because art certification is Birth - 12, you may take either the Elementary or the Secondary version of the exam.)
  • Content Area - Visual Arts (CST)

For more information and a complete list of certification requirements for art education, please see the Checklist for Certification Requirements for Undergraduate Art Education Majors.
