Faculty/Staff Spotlight

Dr. Poonam Dev Awarded a Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Grant

Associate Professor in the School of Education, Dr. Poonam Dev, has been awarded a Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad grant for study and travel in South Africa.  Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program provides four-to-six week seminars abroad for U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities for the purpose of improving their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries.

Nazareth College’s Fulbright Program Adviser Professor Mark Madigan stated, "Dr. Dev's success in this prestigious grant competition is a testament to her scholarship and many professional achievements.  She will be a superb representative of Nazareth College and ambassador for the United States in South Africa."

The Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program is open to educators and administrators with responsibilities for curriculum development in fields related to humanities, languages, and area studies. Seminars are designed to provide a broad and introductory cultural orientation to a particular country. The program is geared towards those educators with little or no experience in the host country who demonstrate the need to develop and enhance their curriculum through short-term study and travel abroad.

"The world has been inspired by South Africa’s perseverance against apartheid and her continued commitment to social justice. The Fulbright-Hays Seminar will help me bring back a wealth of information about South Africa’s challenges and successes and help me gain a deeper understanding of her richness as well as struggles. I plan to share some of this wealth with the college community as well as with others through conversations, presentations and perhaps publications," said Dr. Poonam Dev.
