Undeclared Students

Resources for Undeclared Students

At Nazareth College, it is okay to be undeclared. You don't have to make up your mind about a major until the end of your sophomore year. Some majors do require a decision earlier than that, but generally the first two years can be a time of exploration, reflection, and self-evaluation. We encourage undeclared students to use this time to think about their interests and goals.

During this time, you can take general courses that fulfill core requirements and that will also expose you to a wide variety of areas of study and topics. Many resources on campus are available to help you with this process.

  • Each spring, the Academic Advisement Center offers a one-credit course, CDL100, Exploring Self, Majors and Career. This course is available only to freshman and sophomores and is designed to assist students with the process of exploring self, majors and career. Activities include assessment of interests, skills, values, and personality traits. In addition, methods for utilizing this information towards career and life planning are taught. Students are introduced to major and career exploration resources.

  • The Career Services Office also has resources for students, including computer software programs that help you pinpoint possible careers and majors that match your interests.

  • Individual appointments can also be made with your academic advisor or an Academic Counselor in the Academic Advisement Center to discuss major and/or career choices.
