An important component of the minor is its interdisciplinary approach to understand the cultural, political, and sociological issues that impact the healthy development of youth.  Students are required to take one sociology course that explores social environment, and one course that explores concepts of multiculturalism, multiple styles of learning, gender or inclusion.

• CYD 201 – Youth Development in Community Settings (3 credits) *Requires 16 hours off-campus service-learning
• CYD 483 – Community-Based Youth Development Internship (3 credits)
• CYD 480 – Community-Based Youth Development Capstone (3 credits)

• PSY 240G – PII Multicultural Psychology (3 credits)
• SOC 313G – PII Gender and Society (3 credits)
• SOC 320 – Social Classes (3 credits)
• SOC 410 – PII Racial and Cultural Minorities (3 credits)
• SWK 300G – Social Work and Human Diversity (3 credits)
  *Or a course in the major that addresses issues of diversity, social environment, gender(s), multiple styles of learning, and/or inclusion

One course from:

• PSY 221 – PII Development I: Childhood & Adolescent (3 credits)
• PSY 224 – PII Adolescence and Emerging Adulthood (3 credits)

One course in the student's major that is approved by the director of the minor; or an elective approved by the director of the minor.

Internship

• CYD 483 -- Community-Based Youth Development Internship (Required)
• 120 credit hours for one semester
• Must be approved by the director of the minor
• Students must have at least Junior standing with a GPA of at least 2.5
• All other college internship policies apply
