Graduate Commencement Events

Graduate students who choose not to participate in formal commencement exercises must write or e-mail Alison Teeter, Director of Graduate Student Services, requesting to receive a degree in absentia. Please send this request to Diplomas for degrees granted in absentia will be available for pick-up in the Registrar's Office one week after commencement. All diplomas not picked up will be mailed at the end of May.

Stop by the Bookstore and purchase academic regalia. If you cannot purchase the cap, gown, and hood in person, you can prepay by contacting the Bookstore directly and they will ship it to you. Graduate students who have a black cap and gown from their undergraduate commencement are not required to purchase these items. They do need, however, the appropriate hood for their school and a new tassel. (NOTE: Students must have all three items - cap, black gown and appropriate hood - to participate in the Commencement ceremony.)

If you purchase a complete package (cap, gown, hood, tassel) it is $62.99. If you choose to purchase these items separately:

  • Graduate cap/gown: $52.99
  • Graduate hood: $42.99
  • Tassel: $9.99

  • For Doctor of Physical Therapy students: Complete package (cap, gown, hood, tassel) = $92.99

The bookstore will be offering extended hours of operation on Monday, April 14th from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, April 15th from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The regular hours for the semester are: Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Saturday: 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The campus bookstore will be open Commencement Day from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for any last minute graduation gifts.

Choir Rehearsal - in the Arts Center

4:00 p.m.
Commencement Rehearsal - Candidates assemble in the Arts Center. Faculty marshals will place candidates in their order of procession for Commencement; therefore, attendance is very important. It is not necessary to wear academic regalia to the rehearsal.

4:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Alumni Send Off - Join us for music, food, and drink sponsored by the Alumni Relations Office. The event will be held in the Arts Center lobby and courtyard area.

Physical Therapy Hooding Ceremony in the Forum

1:30 p.m.
Students Assemble for Baccalaureate in the Arts Center

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Baccalaureate Interfaith Service for graduating students (graduate and undergraduate), their families and all guests will be held in the Arts Center - Callahan Theatre. Sponsored by Center for Spirituality, the service includes readings, prayers, songs, and a featured speaker.
