"Civic engagement is a pillar of the Nazareth College education, and working to better the community around us starts as soon as our students arrive as freshmen. We want our students to leave here with the understanding that they can continue to make a real difference in the world their children will inherit. Nazareth College is one of 190 colleges and universities in the country to be selected by the Carnegie Foundation for its community engagement classification - proof that a Center for Civic Engagement on campus will be a perfect fit." --Daan Braveman, Nazareth President
Rochester has been the host of Nazareth College since 1924 and is a city rich with resources and opportunities for engagement. Both locally and internationally, organizations partner with Nazareth and are co-educators of our students.
Nazareth wants students to graduate with the understanding that they can continue to make a real difference in the world their children will inherit. The Nazareth education exists to prepare students “to make a difference in their own world and the world around them, and encourage them to develop the understanding, commitment, and confidence to lead fully informed and actively engaged lives.”
The Center for Civic Engagement is a major asset to Nazareth College’s Vision, which pledges to place special value on civic engagement. The creation of the Center for Civic Engagement honors that pledge. For many reasons, it enhances the spirit of Nazareth College and becomes another reason why we stand out amongst the best.
Create Close Community Ties
Rochester has been a host to Nazareth College since 1924. For years, thousands of students have developed into honorable scholars and professionals with the help of the community that surrounds the college. The Center creates close ties between students and the people and places that make up Rochester. It recognizes the importance of the Nazareth community and Rochester community relationship; both inspiring each other to prosper and grow.
Help Us Rise to Our Potential
Nazareth College has a multitude of opportunities for students to become civic leaders. The potential for civic engagement at Nazareth College is boundless. The Center is a way of focusing and growing that potential by acting as a link between the opportunities under the umbrella of civic engagement: Office of Community Service, Center for Service Learning, and Professional Internship Program (PIP).
Strengthen Academic and Professional Interests
A large part of civic engagement is applying your knowledge as a scholar to the betterment of society and helping others. The Center, by supporting programs like PIP and the Center for Service Learning, is acting on behalf of student academic and professional interests.
Aid in Our Pursuit of Excellence
Nazareth College strives to achieve excellence in everything we do. The Center is a driving force behind the civic engagement philosophy as its presence grows larger and larger. It aids in the students’ journey towards mastering the art of becoming civically engaged and socially conscious leaders.
