Service Ambassadors

Service Ambassadors

A program of the Center for Civic Engagement, Service Ambassadors provide opportunities for service, leadership, and community engagement in partnership with local and international schools and organizations. This program enhances student learning by increasing their understanding of social issues, strengthening social responsibility and heightening their understanding of human diversity while responding to the challenges of our community.

Danielle Ashton

Major: Social Work '15

Service Program: Lollypop Farm, The Humane Society of Rochester. "Volunteers care for over 11,000 homeless animals each year. Volunteers do many different kinds of things, including animal care (walking dogs, cleaning animal cages, feeding, etc.), assisting in our adoption center in PetSmart in Henrietta, doing data entry, and much more."

Christine Dorward

Major: Accounting '15

Service Program: Saint's Place. "The tutoring program provides much needed support to both school-age children and adults that are new to our country.  Volunteers work one-on-one with the refugees once a week to help them with English, as well as any school subject that they may need assistance with.  Saint's Place provides tutoring services at two locations within close proximity to our refugees' homes  We currently serve up to 150 children and adults in our tutoring program."

Service Program: Friendly Visitor Program. Build a relationship with a resident through friendly visiting. These special relationships offer companionship , conversations, and support. Engage and assist with recreation events or help residents stay connected to friends and family through Facebook and email.

We are students dedicated to coordinating, leading, and participating in volunteer service events and programs. Service Ambassadors connect Nazareth students to service opportunities around the Rochester community. We are energized, motivated and seeking to make a difference in our community while empowering Nazareth students to do the same.
