The Center for Civic Engagement leads and advocates for the civic mission of higher education and Nazareth College.
The mission of the Center for Civic Engagement is to support the development and coordination of the rich, diverse, and varied curricular and co-curricular partnerships that actively engage Nazareth within local, regional, and global communities. Through their involvement students will develop the understanding, commitment, and confidence to lead fully informed and actively engaged lives.
Included within the Center for Civic Engagement are the Center for Service Learning, the Department of Community Service, and the Professional Internship Program.
- Center for Service Learning – students participate in credit-bearing academic courses, which incorporate meaningful community service experiences, directly related to course theory and objectives.
- Community Service Department-- students volunteer or participate in work study with the programs of Partners for Learning, Partners for Serving and many on-going or one-time service options.
- Professional Internship Program -- students apply their academic knowledge in a professional employment setting while also earning college credit. While internships bring many Nazareth students into the Rochester area to gain "on the job" training, others are hitting the road for a semester in Washington, D.C. or Walt Disney World. For an example of what our students are doing on their internship, visit: “Earning ‘Ears’ of Experience.”
