Nazareth Named Top Producer of Fulbright Students

Fulbright BadgeIn 2011, Nazareth students received five Fulbright awards--a record number in one year for the College. This placed the institution in the number three spot (in the Master’s Institutions category) of the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students, 2011–12 list. The Fulbright has been awarded to a total of 12 Nazareth students in the last 5 years.

The Fulbright at Nazareth

Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the Fulbright Program’s objective is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the rest of the world. Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program is America’s flagship international education exchange. Approximately 279,500 “Fulbrights,” 105,400 from the United States and 174,100 from other countries, have participated in the Program since its inception over fifty years ago.

The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board has selected:

  • Liam Connolly of Stratham, N.H., a history and philosophy double major, who will teach English in South Korea.
  • Hannah East of Williamson, N.Y., a social work graduate, who will study anti-corruption policy to better understand the low levels of government corruption in Finland.
  • Julie Saltrelli of Rochester, N.Y., a master of arts in liberal studies student, who will act as a language-learning assistant in Argentina.
  • Maria Seewaldt of Warsaw, N.Y., a German and inclusive adolescent education double major, who will teach English in Germany.
  • Jessica Tette of Livonia, N.Y., a Spanish and adolescent education double major, who will teach English in Colombia.

In the last five years, there have been 16 Fulbrights awarded to Nazareth College students.
