Nazareth College Hosts Pre-K @ College Program, October 13

Dozens of Rochester families are “taking their preschooler to college” as Nazareth College’s Helen and Walter Cooper Institute for Urban Education hosts Pre-K @ College, a special event in partnership with the Rochester City School District. The event for the pre-school children and their families, which is by invitation only, is on Saturday, October 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the Shults Center Forum on the Nazareth College campus at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14618.

The program features local author Will Hubbell, who will be reading his book Apples Here!, which includes illustrations of city, rural and urban school children in the area and also local apple farms. Children will be able to meet the author, as well as participate in other activities, including singing and yoga. Wegmans will also be providing apples as a snack. Parents will gather in the Linehan Chapel to hear Gaynelle Wethers, director of Nazareth College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, speak about college and a nutritionist from Wegmans will provide tips on keeping children healthy.

Nazareth College’s School of Education will also present both Will Hubbell and Wegmans with literacy awards for their continued support of the Pre-K @ College program. The goal of this program is a partnership between higher education institutions and the Rochester City School District Pre-K Program to promote learning, enjoyment, and the possibility of higher education. It is sponsored by the Nazareth College School of Education Graduate Literacy programs and the RCSD Early Childhood Department.

Founded in 1924, Nazareth College is located on a close-knit, suburban campus in the dynamic, metropolitan region of Rochester, N.Y. The College offers challenging academic programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional programs in health and human services, education, and management. Nazareth's strong cultures of service and community prepare students to be successful professionals and engaged citizens. The College enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students.
