Guest speaker and expert in geriatrics Dr. Allen Power will give an informational lecture at Nazareth College on Monday, November 26, at 7:00 p.m. Power will discuss the Eden Alternative, a philosophy that aims to improve long term care conditions for the elderly, taking away the state of decline that is normally seen among older adults in nursing homes. The event if free and open to the public, and will take place in the Nazareth College Medaille Formal Dining Room, 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618. Light refreshments will be served. Power is the Eden Mentor at St. John’s Home in Rochester, N.Y., and clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Rochester. He is a board certified internist and geriatrician, and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians/American Society for internal medicine. Power is known for his book, Dementia beyond Drugs: Changing the Culture of Care which was released in February 2010. It won a 2010 Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing, and a Merit Award from the 2011 National Mature Media Awards. He has been interviewed and featured by BBC Television, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The Wall Street Journal, to name a few.
Power is also a Certified Eden Alternative® Educator and a member of the Eden Alternative board of directors.
